Maktaba Books - Seekers Book Club Event - The Barakah Effect

Join our book clubs la

Come to any sessions of our three book clubs to explore ways you can socialise through books.

Seekers Book Club

Seekers Book Club aims to bring together individuals from different backgrounds to read various books from an Islamic, Singaporean, and/or Southeast Asian lens. Whether the text is secular or set in an unfamiliar culture, there is always something within a book that can resonate with the Muslim faith.

That space of seeking commonality is what drives this book club. With each participant’s unique experience and perspective grounded in religion and identity, we discuss our thoughts and perspectives based on the pages of a book.

Sama-Sama Book Club

Sama-Sama Book Club aims to bring together individuals from different backgrounds to read various books from a Southeast Asian lens. Whether the text is secular or set in an unfamiliar culture, there is always something within a book that can connect with us.

The Silent Book Club

Bring your favorite book and immerse yourself in a world of words with fellow book lovers. Whether you're into fiction, non-fiction, or poetry, this event is perfect for anyone who wants to enjoy the quiet pleasure of reading. No need to worry about discussions - just come, grab a cup of cafe drink, and read in peace. Come and feel comfortable reading long lines of text!

What people say about us

We promise we didn’t pay them or threaten them to say this stuff.

As a ex-Harry Potter series enthusiast, whose interest faded around late teens - twenties, the spark re-ignited with MB's first (and possibly only) online book session.

Trapped within four walls, The Book Stationery Shop accompanied the days recuperating from the virus of the 'pandemic-that-shall-not-be-named'.

Apart from providing a space where fellow bookworms can gather to exchange opinions on fiction x non fiction, it's a platform to receive an (unexpected) book recommendation or two - adding on to that ever growing TBR pile i.e. a bookaholic's dilemma

Thanks MB team 🙂

I fully understand the trailblazing beauty of passion projects, and I sensed Maktaba Books was one of them. I got connected when I signed up for the pilot of TSRBCBMB in 2024. Since then, the club and the organisation have provided me much-needed monthly intellectual respites from tedious life. I deeply respect the beautiful team behind Maktaba Books, and I would willingly volunteer my skills and time for anything they'd need, insya-Allah!

I’ve attended Maktaba Book’s Sama Sama Book Club, Seekers’ Book Club and Silent Reading Book Club. I love that the different book clubs are varied and diverse in their choice of books and format. I find fulfilment in the Seekers’ Book Club, receiving joy and enlightment through the empathetic discussions around Islam in current worldly settings. Sama Sama Book Club’s book choices are diverse and peppered with interactive and thoughtful discussions and the Silent Book Club give me time to catch up on reading.

I love how Maktaba Books are inclusive in their approach and how I get to connect with people from various walks of life. I would definitely recommend Maktaba Books for its variety of book clubs and accessibility to the general public and those who are curious!

Ron Tan, Regular Book Club Attendee

Maktaba Books reminds me of the prophetic spirit of sharing and seeking knowledge as a communal act of love and trust. In a time of hyper-individualism, to see a community come together to circulate books, especially those rooted in the Islamic tradition and Malay culture, is deeply encouraging. It revives the adab of reading not just for the self, but for others, and cultivates a space where knowledge lives between hands, hearts, and homes.
